What criteria does Barn Cats use before taking in a cat?

We take adult cats (feral and semi-feral) that are 8 months or older that have:

  • Had a negative test for feline leukemia
  • Been sterilized preferable with ear tip
  • Rabies shot that is current
  • Distemper shot that is current

The test and distemper shot is usually not given for feral cats when TNR is done.  However, those cats are being “returned” to their environment while our cats are being moved to a different site where there may be other cats.  We cannot take a chance on spreading contagious diseases.
